Having directed three other of the southeast's PCUSA camp and conference centers, Kelly comes to us with a wealth of experience as well as the knowledge from earning both a B.S. in Business Administration from Presbyterian College (1998), and an M.Ed. in Recreation Administration from UGA (2001). As a former long time camper and summer staffer at Camp Cherokee in the 1980's and '90's, his personal dedication and passion for this ministry drives his vision for the future of this ministry while honoring it's rich heritage.
Father of two boys, Philip and Iain, husband to Jean Howington and patient owner of an off the wall cat named Jack and his best friend and gentle Collie companion Daisy, Kelly cherishes each new day God calls him back to work on these hallowed shores of Allatoona.

I was born and raised in St Louis, Missouri and spent my summers at a girl’s camp in the woods of northern Wisconsin. I then went to Denison University in Granville, Ohio where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. My journey then took me to Atlanta, Georgia where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Emory University. I also met my husband, Tony, while at Emory. We were engaged for 2 years and have been married for almost 26 years. We are blessed with 3 beautiful children; Lauren, Brian, and John.
I worked as a medical/surgical nurse at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital (now Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta) until I started my family. I then worked in a corporate setting doing cost containment which was a wonderful opportunity to use my nursing skills in a different way. I am currently working during the school year as the nurse at Lockheed Elementary School in the Marietta City Schools district. This summer marks my 3rd summer as the nurse at Camp Cherokee and I can hardly wait for the summer to start! My camp days as camper, counselor, and now as camp nurse are among the happiest of my life.
